Easing surf over the weekend, new S/SE swell Monday
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 12th June)
Best Days: Saturday, Monday morning, Tuesday afternoon
Recap
This morning we fell in between swells with clean 2ft waves across Clifton, but a new SW groundswell should of since filled in, offering 2-3ft sets across the coast under variable winds.
This weekend and next week (Jun 13 – 19)
Today's pulse of swell should ease back through tomorrow with clean 2ft waves across Clifton before becoming tiny into Sunday.
Our pulse of S/SE groundswell for Monday has been downgraded a touch but winds are also looking average as a deepening low off the East Coast directs a freshening E/NE'ly into the state. Early variable winds are still likely with an inconsistent 2-3ft+ of S/SE groundswell (larger at more exposed breaks).
The swell is then due to fade into the afternoon with tiny surf due into Tuesday morning.
Into the rest of the week there's nothing major on the cards, but a series of polar fronts pushing along the Antarctic Shelf should produce small and fun pulses of SW groundswell.
The first pulse is due Tuesday afternoon to an inconsistent 1-2ft, with a secondary pulse Wednesday to a similar size. Winds should improve Tuesday with NW tending variable breezes due, while Wednesday will become poor again with a fresh and gusty SE'ly.
This will be related to the low taking shape, and only a tiny and weak increase in SE windswell is due before winds swing more E'ly through Thursday and Friday as the low starts to drift south.
A better SW groundswell pulse is also expected into later Friday and more so Saturday from a small but intense polar low moving slowly east along the Polar Shelf. We'll have a closer look at this on Monday though. Have a great weekend!
