Small waves ahead
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 9th January)
Best Days: Saturday morning, Monday, Tuesday morning
Recap
Tiny waves through yesterday with morning offshore winds, while today was tiny again with light onshore breezes.
This weekend and Monday (Jan 10 -12)
Our small increase in new SW swell is still on track with 2ft sets due across Clifton tomorrow morning, but winds look to be a slight issue.
A weak SE'ly is due across the region, but this may tending variable through the morning before increasing through the afternoon.
Therefore the morning surf will be the best of it with lumpy/glassy waves across the region.
Sunday is expected to be tiny and around 1-1.5ft but a late increase in new swell is due through the day, peaking Monday around 2ft on the sets again across Clifton.
This will be generated by a broad but not overly strong polar front firing up to our south-west tomorrow.
Winds Sunday look to be from the SW but without much strength Sunday morning, while Monday should be cleaner with an early N'ly tending fresh NE'ly breeze.
Tuesday onwards (Jan 13 onwards)
Monday's swell looks to hold into Tuesday morning as winds persist from the N/NE with the morning providing the best conditions around Clifton.
Into the rest of the week we're still looking at a possible increase in SE windswell as a deepening surface trough/low sits off our East Coast.
The forecasts regarding the positioning/strength and movement of this system are still up in the air and with this it's hard to have any confidence in the forecast beyond Wednesday. Therefore check back Monday for a much clearer idea on this. Have a great weekend!
