Best Sunday, tiny next week until Thursday
Southern Tasmania Forecast (issued Friday 5th September)
Best Days: Saturday, Sunday, Monday at exposed spots
Recap
The surf was tiny again yesterday, but a small lift in size was seen through the afternoon but with onshores. This morning the swell was easing from a tiny and inconsistent 1-1.5ft.
This weekend and next week (Sep 6 - 12)
Some better swell is on the cards for the weekend, two pulses generated by a couple of small but strong polar fronts along the Polar Shelf.
The first should build tomorrow afternoon to an infrequent 1-2ft across Clifton, with a secondary pulse to 2ft Sunday morning.
Winds will be good all day tomorrow with a NW tending W/NW breeze, and then N/NW tending N/NE winds Sunday.
Sunday's swell will fade through Monday from an inconsistent 1-1.5ft under fresh N/NW tending N'ly winds.
From here on the swell is expected to bottom out with nothing major on the cards until Thursday.
This will be in the form of a medium sized W/SW groundswell, generated by a vigorous polar front firing up from east of Heard Island, pushing up towards the Bight on the edge of our swell window while generating winds in the severe-gale to sub-storm-force range from the W/SW.
A large W/SW groundswell will result for SA and Vicco, with smaller but good levels of swell pushing in Thursday afternoon and peaking Friday.
At this stage we're looking at building swells to 3-4ft later Thursday with a possible stronger increase to 3-5ft Friday morning.
Winds will be OK and fresh to strong from the W/NW Thursday and early Friday but a SW change is due during the day, creating poor conditions. More on this Monday though, so until then, have a great weekend!
