Recap

Very large swells from the E/NE-E in the 6-8ft range yesterday, holding or even bigger today with mod/fresh S’ly to S/SE’ly winds.

This week and next week (Apr 2- Apr 11)

As of this morning our deep Tasman low (984hPa) is still slow moving although high pressure support has slipped in under the low with the strongest winds now aimed more at Tasmania. We’ll see the low meander towards the South Island for the remainder of the week, with large swells on the ease across Eastern Tasmania. A series of fronts then push into the Tasman over the weekend and early next week bringing S swell pulses, with some size expected.

In the short run we’ll see sizey but easing swells tomorrow with 5-6ft surf easing a notch through the day and winds improving, being light SW early and tending light/mod S’ly through the day. Some extra long period S/SE swell is also expected in the mix with occ. 2-3ft sets.

Fun waves expected on Fri with sets to 3-4ft, easing through the day and light winds tending variable then NW in the a’noon as a front approaches.

We’ll see a moderate front push through Bass Strait and across Tas on Sat, with winds freshening from the W then SW as the front passes the state. Small leftovers to 2ft on offer at first, with mostly S/SE-SE swells in the water. A modest kick in new S swell delivers 2-3ft surf at S exposed breaks.

Sun sees a much stronger front approach from the west with pre-frontal W/NW winds really strengthening during the day and blowing surf tiny/flat.

The front passing into the Tasman Mon now looks a notch stronger than first noted on Mon. Winds shift strong SW-S as the front pushes aggressively into the Tasman with new S swells building to 4-5ft during the morning.

These swells quickly ease into Tues.

Not much for the rest of the week with only tiny swells expected.

We’ll see how it looks Fri.

Seeya then.
