Small blend of swells in the short term, not much after that
Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Steve Shearer (issued Mon October 30th)
Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)
- Small S blend Tues
- Small but good quality E/NE swell from low in Tasman Tues/Wed
- Short range S swell possible Fri with S winds
- Not much after that
- Possible NE windswell mid next week
Recap
Solid NE windswell to 3ft on Sat, with smaller surf to 2ft on Sunday. Today has seen a strong rebuild in NE windswell to 3-4ft with fresh NW winds.
This week and next week (Oct 30 - Nov10)
The Tasman low of sub-tropical origins which has sprayed the East Coast with swell is now just north of the North Island, with some swell generating winds still active to the west of the North Island, although quite limited in length. It’s deepened and is hammering the North Island sending small E/NE towards NETas. Weak high pressure in the Tasman is directing a N’ly flow across most of the East Coast, with a trough and front bringing a S’ly change tomorrow.
In the short run we’ll see NE swells ease with leftovers to 1-2ft, mixed with small S/SE swells to a similar size and some small S swell wrap to 2ft in the a’noon, under offshore W/NW winds shifting S/SW in the a’noon.
Offshore W-W/SW winds Wed with an a’noon seabreeze. Similar small S swell with some quality but inconsistent E/NE swell to 2ft on the sets. Those swell sources ease back Thurs with tiny surf to knee high or so and light/variable winds.
We may see the leading edge of a new high pressure cell and cold front bring S’ly winds Fri and some new S swell to 2-3ft but poor quality is expected.
That leads to a continuing signal of small S swell over the weekend, likely just bigger on Sat (1-2ft) and easing right back on Sun.
Into next week and more marginal swells not offering much in the way of size. It’ll likely be ankle snappers for at least the first half of next week.
We may see some NE windswell develop mid week, possibly even with some size to it, if a trough of low pressure drifts down the NSW South Coast.
Check back Wed and we’ll see how it’s looking.
