Poor outlook, try further afield
Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday February 18th)
Best Days: Desperate surfers south swell magnets tomorrow morning and Sunday
Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)
- Small, mid-period S'ly swell tomorrow, easing through the day with light W/SW tending fresh N/NE winds
- Small S'ly swell Sun with freshening N/NW-NW winds
- Weak NE windswell Wed with NE winds
Recap
Tiny levels of windswell from the north-east yesterday, near flat today.
This weekend and next week (Feb 19 - 25)
A strong cold front that’s currently pushing across the state should produce a small pulse of mid-period S’ly swell for the south swell magnets tomorrow, but it’s zonal nature won’t see it amounting to much.
Sets to 2ft are due on the magnets, easing through the day but with favourable W/SW tending NE winds.
Our secondary pulse of small S’ly groundswell for Sunday from a better aligned, polar fetch of gale-force S/SW winds now looks weaker with the polar fetch not quite reaching the gale-force threshold.
Instead only a small 1-2ft wave is due on the south magnets Sunday with increasing N/NW-NW winds.
Looking at next week and another weak front pushing up past us Monday evening doesn’t look to generate much over 1-2ft on the south swell magnets Tuesday morning and with onshore winds. Our weak N/NE windswell for mid-next week is still on the cards with average 2ft+ waves due to develop Wednesday owing to a patchy fetch of NE winds Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Unfortunately there’s still nothing major due into the longer term so maybe check out the South Arm Forecast. Have a great weekend!
