Small, flukey swells this week with cold fronts passing over the Island
Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Steve Shearer (issued Mon February 14th)
Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)
- Small E swell leftover Tues with SE winds
- Small NE windswell later Wed, easing Thurs under offshore winds
- Slight kick in S swell later Fri, holding Sat AM
- Larger S swell Tues next week
Recap
Small surf over the weekend with only 1-2ft waves on offer Sat, which extended into Sunday before NE windswell built into the 2-3ft range during the day. This swell hung on into today with some 2-3ft leftovers on offer, under early N’ly winds before a S’ly change.
This week and next week (Feb 14 - 25)
Nothing too exciting on the radar this week. A lingering trough may see some small, weak E’ly swell through Tues, topping out at around 2ft, under a SE flow.
This trough then dissipates and moves away Wed with N’ly flow expected to return as high pressure tracks across the Tasman, NE of the state. A NE fetch is very briefly aligned in the swell window Wed, possibly seeing some rideable 2ft NE windswell before a trough and front Thurs brings a clearing W’ly flow, likely to iron out flat any remaining small NE winds swell through the day.
The front strengthens Fri with strong W’ly winds expected and tiny surf through the morning.
S swell generated by the deep parent low then builds later Fri into the 2ft range, extending into Sat before easing.
Sunday then drops back to tiny with Mon following suit.
Into next week and another front passes over the state with a low to the south Mon into Tues with a rise in S swell expected on Tues. This swell should push up into the 2-3ft range, before easing Wed.
Longer term and high pressure looks to park itself next to the Island later next week, leading to a spell of settled weather and tiny surf from mid next week.
Check back Wed for the latest update.
