Fun pulses from the east, then south for the weekend
Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 2nd August)
Best Days: Late tomorrow, Wednesday morning, Saturday through Monday on the south swell magnets
Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)
- Building NE swell later tomorrow with variable winds, easing from the E/SE Wed with strong S/SW tending SW winds
- New S groundswell Sat with NW winds ahead of a late S change, easing Sun with NW winds
Recap
A tiny pulse of weak N/NE windswell Saturday, tiny to flat yesterday and today.
This weekend and next week (Aug 3 - 8)
Looking at tomorrow, and our flukey, small pulse of NE swell is still on the cards, generated by a mid-latitude low moving in from the west, with a short-lived but strong infeed of NE winds developing through our swell window.
This will occur from early tomorrow morning, with the swell due to build through the day, peaking into the late afternoon with sets likely to build to 2-3ft by dark, peaking overnight and easing back from 2-3ft Wednesday morning more from the E.
Winds tomorrow look nice all day, variable offshore in the morning and variable into the afternoon.
Wednesday looks dicey early with strong S/SW winds, tending more SW through the day as a small trough pushes off the coast. A small windswell will also be in the mix, but the E energy better.
While not sizey, the pulses of NE and E/SE swells are worth making the most of with the favourable conditions.
Moving into the weekend and we've got a strong polar low due to fire up in our southern swell window, generating a great fetch of gale to severe-gale W/SW winds, south-west of the state, weakening while moving more into our swell window on the weekend.
This should produce a fun S'ly groundswell for Saturday with mid-period reinforcing swells for Sunday and Monday.
At this stage the size looks to be an inconsistent 3-4ft across the south magnets Saturday and 3ft Sunday along with NW winds ahead of a late S change on the former, and NW winds Sunday. We'll take a closer look at this on Wednesday though.
Comments
Thanks Craig - any bonus energy from that low hanging SE of NZ Weds / Thu?
Thanks. Nah, any swell generating fetch is too far north and blocked by NZ.
Thanks Craig ;-)
