Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 23rd July)

Best Days: Wednesday for the desperate

Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)

  • N/NE swell for Wed AM with strong N/NW winds

Recap

Tiny to flat surf all weekend with a tiny hint of swell today out of the east.

This week and weekend (Jul 27 - Aug 1)

Looking at the coming period and the only noteworthy swell is due Wednesday and that'll be an acute N'ly swell.

A strong cold front pushing in from the west will squeeze a high in the Tasman Sea, bringing strong to gale-force N-N/NW winds in our northern swell window through Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

This should kick up an acute N/NE swell to 3ft across north-east facing beaches, but the issue will be the local winds. Strong N/NW breezes will blow all day, swinging NW on dark and this will create poor conditions at those north-east facing beaches. Come Thursday W/NW breezes are due but there'll be no swell let in the tank.

Into the weekend we might see another, smaller N/NE windswell on Saturday but with N/NW winds again, with nothing really of note longer term unfortunately. More on this in the coming updates.
