Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 17th May)

Best Days: Tuesday, Wednesday morning

Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)

  • Good S'ly groundswell tomorrow, easing Wed with favourable winds
  • Nothing significant until a N/NE windswell develops next week

Recap

Nothing of note over the weekend but later this afternoon a new S'ly groundswell should have started to kick across the south magnets.

This week and weekend (May 18 - 23)

Tomorrow looks like the pick of the period with later today's S'ly groundswell due to hold in most of the day under favourable winds.

The source of this groundswell was and still is a strong polar low, with a great fetch of S/SW gales projected ideally through our swell window.

We'll see good 4-5ft sets across the south magnets tomorrow morning, easing a little through the day, down from 2-3ft on Wednesday. Conditions should be great tomorrow with a W/NW tending variable breeze, fresher N/NW on Wednesday.

Following this there's unfortunately not too much else on the cards as the zonal pattern sets in for later in the week and into the weekend.

Next week we'll likely see a N/NE windswell developing across the coast as a trough/low pushes in from the west, squeezing a strong high in the Tasman Sea, but we'll have a closer look at this on Wednesday.
