Today’s Forecaster Notes are brought to you by Rip Curl
This week and weekend (Aug 22 - 15)
Currently a vigorous Southern Ocean frontal progression is pushing up and past us, with a fetch of gale-force SW winds generated in our southern swell window today.
This will generate a moderate sized S'ly groundswell for tomorrow, which alone should come in around 4-5ft, but a secondary front pushing up the coast early tomorrow will direct a better aligned fetch of S/SW gales up through our swell window, producing a larger and more powerful kick in swell.
We'll see south facing beaches kicking to 6ft to likely 8ft through the day (smaller protected spots - especially southern corners), but with poor and strong but easing S/SW winds.
Friday is still the pick as winds swing offshore out of the W/NW-NW along with rapidly easing 4-5ft+ of S/SE swell, down to 3-4ft.
Saturday will be clean again but the swell small to tiny and fading quickly from 1-2ft max.
Longer term there's nothing significant on the cards with the storm track remaining zonal and north in latitude, so make the most of the coming days swells!
