Tricky S'ly swells for the weekend, better Monday
Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 25th August)
Best Days: South magnets keen surfers on dark tomorrow, open beaches Monday
Recap
A tiny and short-lived pulse of S'ly swell yesterday morning with favourable conditions, fading back today leaving 1ft waves on the coast.
This weekend and next week (Aug 26 – Sep 1)
Tomorrow is expected to be flat most of the day, but late in the day we might see some new S'ly groundswell, generated by a strong and broad polar frontal progression that occurred south-west of the state the last couple of days.
The swell isn't too favourably aimed so there's only a slim chance of 2-3ft across south magnets on dark, flat elsewhere. Winds will be favourable with a NW breeze due all day.
Into Sunday we're now due to see a close-range S'ly swell overpower the S'ly groundswell into the afternoon with a polar front pushing up and past us forecast to generate a fetch of strong to gale-force S/SE winds.
In the morning south magnets may see 2ft to occasionally 3ft sets but with average SW-W/SW winds.
Come the afternoon a late increase in messy swell is due, with a peak Monday morning to a solid 3-5ft across south facing beaches. Winds will improve through the day as the low moves off to the north-east and the swell eases rapidly, with W/SW tending W'ly breezes due to favour open beaches.
Come Tuesday there's no major size due to be left at all with fading 1-1.5ft sets under W/NW winds. So make the most of Monday!
Longer term another cold front pushing up past us Wednesday may generate some additional S'ly swell but more on this Monday, have a great weekdn!
