Good S'ly swell to kick off the weekend
Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 16th August)
Best Days: Saturday, Sunday morning
Recap
Tiny fading levels of S'ly swell yesterday, with a tiny hint of NE windswell this morning.
This week and weekend (Aug 17 - 20)
The surf will remain flat through tomorrow but the S'ly swell due into Friday and Saturday has been upgraded in size and power.
This afternoon a polar fetch of gale to severe-gale S/SW winds are forming south-west of the state. This fetch is initially too far west of our swell window, but into tomorrow we'll see the fetch move east, with gale-force S'ly winds projected up north through our southern swell window and past our coast.
This will bring a S'ly change through Friday along with a building S'ly windswell, with the stronger groundswell peaking Saturday morning.
South facing beaches should reach 3-4ft later in the day Friday but with gusty S/SW winds, while the groundswell is expected to peak at 3-5ft across south magnets early Saturday, easing through the day.
Winds will remain from the W/SW Saturday which isn't ideal for south magnets, but open beaches should be fun with less size.
Better W/NW winds are due Sunday as the S'ly swell eases back from a smaller 2ft across south magnets.
Longer term the storm track will remain quite zonal with no significant surf due into next week, but more on this Friday.
