Good E/NE groundswell to end the week, S'ly swell to follow
Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 21st June)
Best Days: Thursday, Friday, Saturday at south swell magnets, Tuesday at south swell magnets
Recap
Tiny S'ly swell with clean conditions yesterday, while today the first signs of E/NE swell were showing on the coast with clean 2-3ft sets. The swell should of kicked a little further through the day, but more on this below.
This week and weekend (June 20 - 25)
Our current building E/NE swell is linked to a broad and strong Tasman Low, and we saw this low reach a peak in intensity in our swell window overnight, with a broad fetch of strong to gale-force E/NE winds being aimed towards us.
This should generate the best pulse of E/NE groundswell for tomorrow afternoon, with building sets to 3-4ft across open beaches with offshore W/NW winds, increasing through the afternoon.
A broad fetch of E/NE winds will remain aimed through our swell window until later this evening, and with a travel time of 1.5-2 days, we should see this slow the easing trend through Friday with 3ft sets persisting most of the day, easing from 2ft Saturday morning.
Also in the mix tomorrow should be some fun S'ly groundswell to 2-3ft at south magnets, generated by a strong front that's currently pushing past our south-east corner.
Into Saturday as the E/NE swell fades, another does of S'ly groundswell is expected, produced by a vigorous polar frontal progression through the Southern Ocean.
We'll see large surf developing for the South Arm, but the progression generating this swell will lose a bit of strength as it moves into our swell window.
A glancing fetch of severe-gale SW winds should generate a fun S'ly groundswell pulse though, coming in at 3ft to possibly 4ft across south magnets but with all day offshore winds.
Sunday will be much smaller, but into early next week we're looking at a better aligned polar front projecting up through our southern swell window and this should generate some fun S'ly swell for Monday/Tuesday. More on this Friday though.
Comments
Looks like the east swell was a bit underwhelming
Did you surf Mitch?
Just wondering if there were any other reports? Seeing as Sydney was still a solid 3-4ft with 5ft bombs today and the fetch was nicely aimed towards Tassie, I can't see how it would not be 3ft today.
Nah sorry mate. Will be tomorrow, probably not east coast anymore though
