Our new E/SE groundswell started to show yesterday morning with good clean 3ft sets, pulsing strongly into the afternoon.

This morning the surf was pumping with a peak in swell and fresh offshore winds for southern ends of beaches.

This weekend and next week (Apr 15 - 21)

We've seen the E/SE groundswell from this morning easing into this afternoon, and this trend will be more pronounced tomorrow due to the fetch off New Zealand's South Island breaking down through yesterday.

Open beaches should offer 2-3ft sets at dawn, back to 1-2ft by the afternoon with nothing major left into Sunday.

Conditions will be best tomorrow morning with light offshore breezes before NE sea breezes kick in, with NW tending W/NW winds Sunday.

Into next week there's nothing significant expected at all, but it's worth keeping an eye on east magnets Sunday afternoon and Monday for a very distant E/NE groundswell.

This swell has been generated the last couple of days by a strong fetch just over the back of New Zealand.

It's just within our swell window but may also be blocked by the tip of the North Island. The odd 1-2ft set could be seen Sunday afternoon through Tuesday morning, but keep your expectations low. A zonal flow will keep conditions clean each morning with afternoon sea breezes.
