Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 21st December)

Best Days: Small waves Friday morning onwards, bigger Monday and Tuesday

Recap

A good fun north-east swell across the coast yesterday with favourable winds for open beaches. This morning only tiny hints of swell were left on the coast.

This week and weekend (Dec 22 - 25)

The coming few days up until Sunday afternoon will consistent of small to tiny and inconsistent levels of NE trade-swell from the Coral Sea.

A broad fetch of E'ly trades have been blowing for a couple of days and we'll see this fetch persist until Thursday evening before it weakens and slips behind New Zealand.

Tomorrow inconsistent 1ft sets are likely, with 1ft to occasionally 2ft waves from Friday through Sunday.

Morning offshore winds are due ahead of NE sea breezes.

From Sunday afternoon a more local N/NE windswell is due to develop, growing to a good size through Monday.

A broad and elongated fetch of strong N/NE winds will form off our coast Sunday afternoon and evening, moving away from us but persisting to our north through Monday.

This should produce about 3ft of N/NE windswell Monday morning, growing in strength more to 4ft through the afternoon with N/NW winds.

A quick drop is expected Tuesday with a fresh S/SE change and building S/SE windswell.

This windswell will be linked to a weak low forming to our east, generating SE swell for most of next week, but more on this Friday.
