Recap
A tiny north-east windswell yesterday but a small spike in S'ly swell was seen into the afternoon, fading back into today. Open beaches were tiny but south magnets still had a small wave.
This weekend and next week (Dec 17 - 23)
Tomorrow a small and flukey NE windswell is on the cards across magnets, produced by a medium-range fetch of NE winds through our north-east swell window this afternoon and evening.
While the fetch will be broad and elongated, swell loss is more than likely, with only a 1-2ft wave max expected across north-east facing beaches with a W/NW wind.
A vigorous and deepening cold front and eventual low pressure system is expected to move across us tomorrow evening, but winds within this fetch look too west to generate any major swell.
If any size is due, it will be from the backside of the low and arrive later Sunday and hold Monday morning in the 2ft range across south magnets. This is unlikely though.
Of greater importance and as picked up last update is a moderate sized N/NE windswell event due Tuesday.
This will develop as an approaching front squeezes against a strong high in the Tasman Sea, producing a good fetch of strong to near gale-force N/NE winds down the southern NSW coast and our coast.
This fetch will develop overnight Monday and persist into Tuesday morning before the front moves through late morning.
North-east facing beaches should see solid 3-4ft waves during the morning, cleaning up once the change hits and easing later, with tiny leftovers Wednesday.
Beyond this there's nothing too major on the cards besides distant trade-swell. More on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
