Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Guy Dixon (issued Friday 11th November)

Best Days: Wednesday morning

Recap:

Westerly breezes prevailed all day on Thursday keeping the line up nice and clean. There were a few nce 2ft options along the exposed beaches, however its faded back to a tiny 0.5-1ft today. The fact that the swell has disappeared is no big deal as southeasterly breeze is impacting the quality anyway.

This weekend (Saturday 12th - Sunday 13th):

Conditions along the east coast of Tasmania are going to remain fairly ordinary over the weekend not much chance of any serious size. Despite being very strong, all frontal activity over the past few days has been steering westerly fetches over the region, so the Tasmanian landmass itself has been playing a swell shadowing roll.

Conditions are likely to be beautifully clean on Saturday under an offshore airflow, however the lack of swell will be an issue.

Similarly, Sunday is looking clean, with a northwesterly flow dominating north of St Helens throughout the day, with an afternoon northeasterly seabreeze closer to Bicheno.

Next week (Monday 14th onwards):

The next best chance for swell, albeit small comes on Tuesday (slight indications on Monday afternoon, but nothing surfable) off a north/northeasterly fetch which looks to develop along the coast of NSW on Sunday afternoon. Initially, the fetch looks modest, with core winds of only around 20-25kts and the distance from the coast of Tasmania is large, however open beaches should still see small 1ft options.

The interesting part of this system is its long duration. This north/northeasterly fetch looks to hang around until Tuesday afternoon with slight intensifications thrown in the mix. Wednsday should see a slight lift to the 1-2ft range across exposed beaches, before fading throughout Thursday.

Although light, onshore breezes look to plague Tuesday, so be prepared for soft, crumbly options if you’re planning to have a paddle. Wednesday morning looks good under a light variable airflow, tending onshore in the afternoon.
