Eastern Tasmania Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 22nd May)

Best Days: Saturday morning, Sunday/Monday south swell magnets, Tuesday, Wednesday morning

Recap

Good pulses of S'ly groundswell the last couple of days, cleaner for a longer period today with more favourable winds.

This weekend and next week (May 23 - 29)

Today's S'ly groundswell is due to ease back through tomorrow, with a small reinforcing pulse due to keep 2ft+ sets hitting south facing beaches before fading back into Sunday/Monday to the 1-2ft range.

Winds should be OK and offshore from the W/SW tomorrow morning, while Sunday will be cleanest with a W/NW tending variable breeze.

Into next week, Tuesday and Wednesday are the days to surf, with a good fun S/SE groundswell due across the coast.

This will be generated on the backside of the polar frontal progression responsible for the weekend's S'ly swell pulses, with the low stalling south-southwest of New Zealand Sunday.

A fetch of storm-force S/SE winds will be projected north towards New Zealand, with some good S/SE groundswell spreading out radially towards us from this fetch.

The swell should come in at an infrequent 2-3ft+ across south swell magnets under W/NW tending N/NW winds, before easing Wednesday from 2ft+ or so.

Longer term there's nothing major on the cards at all, so make the most of the southerly swell pulses over the coming days.
