Central QLD: Couple of fun surf days before swell tap turns off

A couple of small fun waves around

A major tropical event is unfolding as an active phase of the MJO sparks a late season monsoonal surge. That is seeing a monsoon trough stretched across the continent with a TC in the Indian Ocean well offshore from the Pilbara, a monsoonal low inland of the NT/QLD border and monsoonal activity in the Coral Sea. It’s likely we will see remnants of the inland monsoon low approach the SEQLD/NSW Coast during the weekend, dragging a moist NE flow down from the tropics and creating a mini black nor-easter event.

We’ll see a couple of fun days of surf from the initial tradewind fetch feeding into the trough for CQ.

Source of small fun waves into the weekend

Once the trough gets dragged south through Fri the swell tap will be turned off for CQ and we’ll see offshore winds and surf becoming tiny over the weekend.

We should see E’ly swell redevelop from later next week but we’ll see how that looks on Fri.
