This weekend and next week (Aug9-Aug 16)

Central QLD: Out of season pumping surf next week

Nothing yet, plenty of surf next week.

No change to the weekend outlook. We’ll see a small rise in swell over the weekend as high pressure builds a ridge and a trough forms in the Coral Sea. Expect SE winds and surf slowly building to rideable levels through Sun.

No change expected to the broad pattern next week with strong high pressure moving into the Tasman and a broad, deep E’ly fetch developing through the Coral Sea, with an embedded trough. Most of the swell energy from this system will be aimed at sub-tropical targets, and we will see some real size from the E as winds feed into the trough.

Expect building swells on Mon as the trough deepens and the fetch intensifies.

Very solid and sizey E swells for Tues with a deep trough off the Wide Bay/CQ coast lending an almost cyclonic feel to the synoptic pattern and swells expected in the 3-5ft range with some bigger sets possible.

The trough does look to dissipate on Wed so we should see a slight easing in size as windspeeds ease in the Coral Sea.

A few fun leftovers into Thurs and then slowly easing through Fri into the weekend.

Make sure you can grab a few next week because it looks like going flat again.

Check back Mon for the latest and have a great weekend!
