Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (updated on Wed 3rd Jan)

This week and next week (Jan3 -Jan12)

Central QLD: Still tiny, just breaking on low tides- flat spell continues

Tiny/flat surf across the region with more tiny/flat days ahead.

Pretty much flat- a tiny wave on low tides

Not a great deal of change since Mon with a slow moving, weakening high in the Tasman, and a coastal trough off the QLD Coast (responsible for hundreds of mm of rainfall) now moving away and dissipating. A trough moving north from a position east of Tasmania brings a renewal of the S’ly pattern into Fri but not extending into the Coral Sea due to another troughy area in the Northern Tasman which confines E’ly winds to below the CQ swell window.

Thus we are looking at more tiny/flat surf with even the small area of tradewinds near New Caledonia not looking like much.

Bring the defib, the Coral Sea needs resuscitation

Expect tiny but just rideable 1ft surf Fri, dropping back to tiny/flat over the weekend.

Into next week and the news is not much better with tiny surf on offer, maybe offering up a few 1 footers on low tides, more likely Mon.

Basically, tiny flat surf continues with no signs of life in the Coral Sea.

Check back Fri for the latest.
