Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (updated on Wed 27th Sep)

This week and next week (Sep27-Oct 6)

Central QLD:  Just rideable into the weekend with a small boost likely next week

Just rideable on the dropping tide

Typical mobile spring pattern with a high moving NE into sub-tropical latitudes, a weakening trough moving north, remnants of a weak low in the Tasman and a new high cell moving through the Bight. High cells are now tending to move NE as they enter the Tasman, with just enough tradewind flow through the Coral Sea to maintain a small drumbeat of surf in CQ, favouring open breaks on the Burnett Coast.

Expect a just surfable signal to continue into the weekend under weak trades in the Coral Sea.

Weak but persistent tradewinds keep surf just rideable

We should see a small boost in size early next week as a new high moves into the Tasman and reenergises the trade flow in the Central/Southern Coral Sea. Nothing major back to a few 2ft sets and surfable on favourable tides.

Check back Fri and we’ll see how it’s looking.
