A little small, but rideable on the right tide
Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (updated on Mon 28th Aug)
This week and next week (Aug28-Sep8)
Central QLD: A little small, but rideable on the right tide
Small, fun waves on offer over the weekend, biggest on Sat, with more to come.
We’ve got a reasonably strong high (1032hPa) sitting in the Tasman, with a weak tradewind fetch, slowly drifting NE and weakening as it does so over the next 36-48hrs with the last of a series of powerful storms tracking across the lower Tasman. The tradewind fetch is a little weaker than forecast but we’ll still see a reasonable ridge up the QLD coast and some fun waves over the next few days.
Further ahead and we will see winds tend N’ly as a trough arrives and the tradewind fetch gets dragged south by a tropical depression near Fiji. That will see surf ease right back to tiny/flat from mid week.
It’s touch and go whether the next high rebuilds tradewinds next week, models suggest it may be located too far north to benefit CQ.
Check back Wed and we’ll see how it’s looking.
Seeya then.
