Tiny surf continues with a chance for a wave later next week
Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (updated on Fri 26th May)
This weekend and next week (May 26-June2)
Central QLD: Tiny surf continues with a chance for a wave later next week
Tiny/flat surf for CQ continues.
We’ve got a classic winter-style pattern happening at the moment with high riding high pressure, an active Southern Ocean storm track and pumping surf for Vicco, small surf wrapping into NSW and a flat spell for QLD. This winter pattern continues for most of next week but there is a little ray of hope on the horizon, ironically as we head into the first week of winter.
A dominant high moving through the Bight next week ends up in the Tasman, with a ridge up the QLD Coast and a SE flow developing in the Coral Sea at a southerly enough latitude to develop some small tradewind swell for CQ open breaks. This is still right at the end of model runs so we’ll need to keep confidence low but by Fri next week and into the first weekend of June we should be seeing some small, rideable 1-2ft surf develop across CQ.
In the mean-time, more fishing days.
Check back Mon for the latest and have a great weekend!
