Couple of tiny/rideable days on the radar Fri/Sat
Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (issued on Mon 13th June)
This weekend and next week (June13-June25)
Central QLD: Couple of tiny/rideable days on the radar Fri/Sat
A large Southern gyre with multiple low pressure systems is now drifting over the South Island with a last front pushing through the lower Tasman today. High pressure is occupying most of NSW and is slowly moving over the coastal region, leading to light winds and settled conditions in the near term.
This system is not a swell producer for CQ so we’re looking at a few more flat days through this week.
Looking to the end of the week and a trough of low pressure and a weak trade flow combine inside New Caledonia Wed/Thurs. Although winds aren’t that strong, the fetch is well aimed for the CQ coast and we should see a small increase later Thurs into Fri, up into the 1ft range.
This size holds into Sat morning before surf eases as the fetch moves South out of the swell window.
Further ahead and surf is likely to trend back downwards for another extended flat spell as more fronts sweep across the SE of the country.
Check back Fri and we’ll update.
