Good run of S/SW swells from Sunday afternoon
Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Thursday 4th July)
Best Days: Exposed breaks tomorrow working funky winds, Bukit reefs from Sunday afternoon
This week and next (Aug 5 - 12)
Tuesday's large powerful and excellent S/SW groundswell filled in right on cue with pumping waves seen into the afternoon at spots handling it. The Rip Curl Padang Cup was something else with epic waves seen right until dark. Congrats to Mega!
Yesterday was still large and powerful, easing back through the day, with 6-8ft sets left at swell magnets this morning, dropping further through the day.
Our reinforcing S/SW groundswell for tomorrow is still on track with exposed breaks to the south continuing around 4-5ft+ before easing off slowly Saturday from 4-5ft.
Winds are due to tend a little funky tomorrow and variable most of the day, continuing Saturday before freshening again from Sunday.
Sunday afternoon's S/SW groundswell will be a bit stronger than tomorrow's, with a good mid-latitude low firing up towards WA the coast the last couple of days. This swell should build Sunday afternoon and reach 6ft across exposed breaks, easing from a similar size Monday morning.
Our following pulses of S/SW groundswell from Tuesday through Wednesday have now been upgraded a little, with the polar frontal progression currently firing up on the mid-latitude front due to be a bit stronger.
Winds in the gale to severe-gale range, piggy-backing each other should generate two separate pulses of S/SW groundswell.
The first for Tuesday should build to 6ft+ across exposed south facing breaks, with the better larger pulse for Wednesday offering 6-8ft sets.
The easing trend into the end of the week will be slowed as a fetch of strong S/SW winds remain positioned in our swell window through the weekend and early next week.
E/SE trades will likely be strongest Tuesday, easing back in strength from Wednesday and into the following weekend.
Longer term a large consistent S/SW groundswell may be seen the week starting the 15th from a high-riding mid-latitude frontal progression, but we'll look at this again Tuesday.
