Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa forecast by Guy Dixon (issued Saturday 9th April)

Best Days: Monday and Tuesday, more size next Sunday but with dicey winds.

Recap:

The surf is on the decline from the 3-4ft range this morning, fading further into Sunday morning with only background energy being the main source of surf.

Next week (Monday 11th - Friday 15th):

Frontal activity over Indian Ocean during the coming days is likely to be fairly ordinary, with models suggesting poor alignment of the main swell generating fetches.

Nevertheless, we can expect an inconsistent swell build to around 3-4ft+ by Monday afternoon across south swell magnets, before peaking on Tuesday in the 3-5ft range.

Conditions look workable under a generally light northwesterly airflow, tending variable at times on Tuesday, more west/northwesterly on Wednesday.

Off the back of these swell pulses, a subtle period pulse is due to provide a small amount of fresh energy late on Wednesday, more so on Thursday morning generated by a modest frontal progression west of the Heard Island region. Although this swell is not expected to provide much size, it’ll help to slow an otherwise easing trend.

East/southeasterly trade winds look to increase late week, dominating both Thursday and Friday making it tricky to find the right wave.

The long term forecast is showing promising signs of a decent swell building throughout Saturday to a peak on Sunday generated by a broader and more favourably aligned frontal progression moving up from south of the African continent, moving west of Heard Island.

At this stage, Sunday morning is looking to peak in the 5-6ft range, with early indications showing that a gusty east/southeasterly trade flow looks to continue.
