World Cup of Surfing: Day Two
"I just stood up and looked down the line and I just saw this thing that was perfect. I just stood there and kind of looked at the scenery. It’s one of the best places to be on earth, in the barrel. I’m just living in the moment." - Beyrick De Vries after scoring a perfect barrel which was rewarded with a Perfect 10.
"Right when I fell it was like ‘no, this isn’t about to happen’. There’s no words to describe it. You get tumbled and held under and your back starts to hurt. I’m still breathing hard. I’m dizzy." Kalani David describing his horror wipeout that ended with five waves on the head.
Oh yeah, it was a day of contrasts at Sunset, pleasure or pain, twos or tens, perfection or...you get the point. The long-prediceted swell came in smack on forecast with 12-15 foot sets early in the morning settling to a very good 10-12 foot in the afternoon. The wind stayed offshore all day.
