Teahupoo this week - photos
This time last year Tim Bonython was bobbing to and fro in a boat 30 kilometres off the south coast of Tasmania. The air and water temps were measured in single digits while the wave heights were anything but.
It was the session when James Hollmer-Cross had his back breaking wipeout from hell that featured heavily in Tim's Australian Surf Movie Festival.
This year Tim is again bobbing to and fro in a boat, yet the surrounds couldn't be more different. He's sweating it up in tropical Tahiti surrounded by blue water with surfers decked in nought but boardies gorging themselves on a three day swell.
Of course, for all its idyllic charm Teahupoo can also serve up wipeouts from hell. Just ask Michel Bourez or Kipp Caddy who both sustained bad injuries this swell. Neither of those wipeouts feature here, you'll have to wait for Tim's next Australian Surf Movie Festival.
