A Surf Travel Scrapbook: Tavarua
Tavarua has been in the surf headlines for the past week owing to the oversize south swell that made its way up the Tasman Sea and down the famous Fijian reef. The allure of perfect, sky-high Cloudbreak was enough to draw Kelly Slater away from the start of the Billabong Pro at Jeffreys Bay and he'll now have to contest the repecharge round if is to he has any hope of progressing.
The swell that hit Fiji was a rarity in terms of size and longevity, and only the world's very best big wave riders surfed it at its peak. These shots taken by ex-pat, Scott Winer, earlier this season show the reef at a still challenging, though more user-friendly size.
Both Cloudbreak and Restaurants are now open to the public. If you'd like to take your next surf holiday in the wave-drenched nation contact the Surf Travel Company, they'll take care of all your needs.
