Over the last couple of years Steve Arklay has escaped the slow Victorian summer by spending time in Papua New Guinea. Steve acts as photographer aboard the PNG Explorer, a boat captained and crewed by a duo of Victorian surfers - Andrew Rigby and Andrew Dart. Or Captain Undies and First Mate Darty as is their official titles.

During the off season the PNG Explorer has been scouring the isolated islands to the east of PNG's main surf zone. Areas the PNG Explorer has never been before, though may return if the quality is there.

These photos, however, are from PNG's 'beaten track'. Note the number of boats in the channel and crowds in the surf.
