Oney Anwar: the one and only
Lightning fast and quick as a whip, that's Oney Anwar. There's only one of him but you'd swear there's more. Triplets, perhaps. Because Oney just caught a wave yet there's a fella that looks like him already out the back, and there's another guy that looks like him in a barrel on the left. And they're all grinning madly. Yep, he's fast, he's everywhere, and he's getting six wave to your one.
In fact, I saw him surfing at the Quiksilver Pro one morning do just that. The annoucers told all non-competitors to get one more wave before competition began, and there was Oney paddling into half a dozen peelers before the water cleared.
For those that don't know, Oney comes from Sumbawa, Indonesia, where his local break is Lakey Peak. He's been sponsored by Rip Curl since 2003 and since 2007 he's attended Palm Beach Currumbin High School.
All these photos were taken by Jarrason Bitton who's been trying to follow Oney around the Gold Coast lineups recently. It's no easy feat.
