Mission: Improbable
Last month Jeff and Josiah Schmucker of Streaky Bay competed in the Nelscott Reef Tow In Classic in Oregon USA. Just to get there was a massive undertaking and, despite the odds being firmly stacked against them, they made it on time. There is a story and interview in the 'News' section with the full details but here are a few statistics to give you an idea of the scale of their mission.
3 days warning to get from Streaky Bay to Oregon.
22 hours spent in a plane.
17 hours in a car.
17 000 kms travelled (the swell they surfed only travelled 4 000 kms!)
And then after travelling halfway around the world and surfing 20 feet+ waves they missed the presentation! Shame, because they were called up to the dias to receive their trophies and a cheque.// STUART NETTLE
