Maldives - June Report
Text and photos by Louis Harris of Liquid Destination.
June was another great month to be on the search for waves around this amazing country. This has been a good year so far although a little windier than most in my opinion. I'm not complaining though as our clients have had their moments, those days of perfect empty waves, it's what we chase.
We approach this country a lot different to everyone else. Others have followed the path of being in business over here involved in surf travel companies that are on-selling accommodation at resorts, boat trips and now land camps. Not us. We don't have an office. We are just here to surf and explore.
The Maldives is littered with set ups. You've just got to know when and where to go. June played out no different for us; we watched forecasts unfold, made our movements and scored some amazing waves. We had a big swell roll through and took the punt on chasing something very different and all I can say is, it was mind blowing [Ed's note: see the first, second, and third photos]. It wasn't as big as some of the waves we could of gone to but I will take what we had over anything. This country is amazing and if you could see it through my eyes you'd be hooked too. We do go through some average patches but they don't last long and that feeling of being in a remote area of the Maldives surfing with just your mates is never too far away.
