Maldives - July 2015 Report
Text by Louis Harris of Liquid Destination:
Mid season in the Maldives is always going to be fun. The swells are consistent and the only thing that then needs to align are the winds. We experience half a dozen or so storms throughout our surf season that range from a few days to up to about ten.
In the native language of the Maldives, Dhivehi this is called Nakaiy Nevi. With each change in weather pattern being named and a rough guideline on the strength of winds, whether there will be much rain or gusty storms with clearer skies etc.
The problem for us is when these storms happen it limits our options. A lot of the waves we surf get shut down with these strong winds. There's still a few options but it definitely changes the game for us as we are always on the search for perfect uncrowded waves.
We had one of these strong patterns in July but either side of this we surfed some amazing waves and were fortunate enough to have some great guests on board loving life in the Maldives.
We've just experienced one of the swells of the season so keep an eye out this week for some shots of where we surfed. It was big clean and not a soul in sight.
