King Island - photos
Going surfing by plane, especially a small propeller plane. How could you ever get blase about it? The deep thrum of the props vibrating through your body, headsets on, surfboards stacked down the aisle, and best of all, arriving at your destination and seeing it from the vantage of 3,000 feet high. Long lines of swell wrapping around headlands, betraying the unseen bottom contours as they form into vectors of energy and focus on long lengths of uncrowded beach.
This is the view Steve Arklay and friends saw 45 minutes out of Moorabbin Airport on their approach to King Island. Traveling with King Island Surf Safaris the crew had a different kind of surf weekend. And the view from sea level was every bit as good as that from above.
