King Hit
Kelly Slater made a return to Cape Solander yesterday, though it wasn't quite as succesful as last Autumn's hit 'n run session that resulted in a few mag covers. While the swell was ruler sharp out of the south-east the wind was playing havoc on the exposed Kurnell coastline. With the options shut down at the mainbreak Slater took on the next wave south with mixed success.
During the session he got caught inside by closeouts, took off on the wrong waves, and couldn't find the right line on the ones that barrelled. Charlie Straumeitis, who took these shots, said he was 'out of rhythm and off his game'. A busted board and pinballing through the rocks - which turned his quad into a thruster - was testament to that.
Of course, Kelly being Kelly he hopped straight back on the horse. We'll have shots of his successful barrels in the coming days.
