The Mentawai Islands continued its impressive run of swell through August, as this season has been one of the most incredible ones ever with relentless swell energy pulsing through for weeks on end since the main swell season began in April. A swell pulses in for a few days of magic, and just as the energy begins to wind down a new swell is following right on its heels and holding the surf height in the playful realm before filling in again.

Early in the month the conditions were clean and perfect allowing guests to surf a variety of waves from the wives on the peeling longboard left tucked on the inside of the reefs to the husbands pulling into some caves out on the top of the reef. The light wind allowed everywhere to showcase its magic and offer peeling perfection to those fortunate enough to be here to enjoy it.

As we moved into the middle of the month, a few days of good barrels went down out front at Kandui Left, with just the right direction in the swell to allow the waves to peel the length of the reef, giving guys some of the longest barrels of their lives. With the clean conditions and ideal direction our guests were treated to one of the jewels of the Mentawai on one of its best faces, as some days can prove to be a bit too much speed for many, this swell allowed everyone to experience the satisfaction of making a good one out front.

Another solid pulse of bombing swell arrived the last week of the month with some ideal winds that allowed our big right point barrel to be groomed offshore and offer up incredible barrels, draining stand up caves for those ready to charge. It was a day to remember, as everyone in the lineup surfed one of the best waves of their year, if not their life, during this incredible pulse of energy. Everyone came back smiling from ear to ear recounting the day's events over some cold Bintangs in the infinity pool, coming down off the adrenaline still running through their veins.

The swell continued its trend and held fun surf through the final days of August, leaving everyone wondering if they will have the energy to be able to keep up with another incredible month of waves again! Good problem to have out here in the Mentawai!
