Going For Broke
South Straddie is not just the opposite end of the Gold Coast to the Superbank in geographic terms, it's also the opposite end of the spectrum in respect to wave shape. While the Superbank is surfed horizontally with drawn out bottom turns, speed floaters and all eyes down the line, Straddie is short and steep and made for vertical hits and big airs. And rather than razor sharp lines rolling down the bank the peaks hit randomly spreading the crowd over a larger area.
Yesterday Adam Weathered headed over to Straddie and caught a mix of locals and visiting pros going for broke on what was the last day of a great run of swell.
