Five Star D'bah (Part One)
It's been summertime in steamers up on the Gold Coast. This time of year Goldy surfers usually have to wait for the larger south swells to make their way up the Tasman, hoping they've got enough gas to round the Cape and get into the south swell magnets.
Not so the last week. A high has parked itself in the Tasman with the winds off the northern flank producing an easterly flow reminiscent of a summertime tradewind swell. And it's been lighting up the whole coast, or at least the spots that have banks left after the hammering of last month.
The banks at D'bah are in great shape and yesterday was the best day in months. In movie speak it was a five star affair; the sort of day that Margaret and David - those pedantic pensioners - would have both agreed upon.
An all-star cast turned up for the filming: Mick Fanning, Dale Richards, a Harrington (dunno which one), Mitch Crews, Noah Lane and Dane Pioli took the waves apart. Adam Weathered was the producer and director and, in true Hollywood style, we'll have a sequel for you tomorrow.// STUART NETTLE
