Fiji
'You snooze you lose.'
Now there's some advice Josh Ku will be quick to heed on his next surf trip. It may not score him more waves but it'll save him in other ways.
We last met Josh when he returned from Taiwan. The photos he showed us from that trip, and which we subsequently ran on Swellnet, had him surfing numerous lefthand pointbreaks, his long raven mane of Samson-esque hair flowing in the wind.
For his most recent trip Josh hooked up with photographer Mark 'Stork' Thompson and the two flew to Namotu, Fiji. On their first night the lads went a bit hard on Namotu's infamous Skulldrags (12 shots, a dash of OJ, delivered through a snorkel) and Josh retired to his bure to snooze it off.
When he woke in the morning he found out that his prized thatch of hair - four years in the making - was lying in clumps on the floor. Stork had shaved it off overnight. "I was devastated," said Josh, "but after scoring a lifetime of barrels on this trip, at this magical place I'm not one bit disappointed."
