Destination Unknown
It's been a while since Matt Mackay has taken any surf photos. These days he's captivated by more sublime images: raw nature, landscapes, that kinda thing. And that was what Matt was chasing early on Sunday morning.
Unfortunately he stepped off the familiar trail not long into the walk. Mesmerised by the beautiful surrounds he kept walking and walking through unknown terrain. He didn't know where he was but he knew he hadn't been there before. Spotting the ocean through a gap in the tress he stepped into a clearing and, lo and behold, what a view!
To the right and on some of the largest waves he'd seen were two teams of tow surfers (and a token longboarder). Ditching the day's plans he rattled off these shots before the conditions turned. Matt stepped back into the bush, gathered his wayward bearings and, after many wrong turns, blustered his way back home.
So the moral of the story is this: Don't ask where these photos were taken, even the photographer doesn't know.
