Cloud Nine, Day Two
Day Two of the 19th Annual Siargao International saw a number of Perfect 10 rides. Indonesia's Dede Suryana scored the first 10 in Heat 8 of Round 4 (Photo 1). In the very next heat - the first Quarterfinal - Filipino local Osot Alcala, who Contest Director Gerry Degan says is the best barrel rider on the island, took off on a thick-lipped beauty that stayed open an impossibly long time before ejecting him into the channel (Photo 2).
In his post heat interview, Alcala was asked what he was thinking after hearing he scored a perfect 10, and he replied with a big smile, "I wasn't thinking anything. I just got lucky to get that wave. But right now I'm thinking I'm really happy!"
