Burma: On the edge of the surfing world
A few months ago Swellnet ran a story on Quiksilver's first surf store in Burma. The commentary following that article centred on whether Burma actually had waves or not. People who'd visited the once-closed country argued passionately either way.
Here to settle the argument is surf photographer John S. Callahan. Callahan, part of the acclaimed surfEXPLORE team of adventurers, visited Burma in 2000 with Randy Rarick and Tor Johnson. The trio found waves in two different regions of the Burmese coast.
After Callahan's initial visit, one of his colleagues at surfEXPLORE, Emiliano Mazzoni, photo editor at Surf News in Italy, visted Burma and also scored waves.
Below are the images from both John and Emi's visits to the edge of the surfing world.
