Brent Dorrington schralping the gnarl
Geez, there's some funny stuff to be found on the web. Adam Weathered sent through a collection of fine sequences of Cooly surfer Brent Dorrington last week, and for some strange reason the word 'schralp' came into my head. Not sure why, to tell you the truth.
But in any case I thought I'd have a squiz and see what Google thought of this descriptive relic of the 80's. It turns out there's a couple of entries at urbandictionary.com. Being a verb, a noun, and an adjective, schralp is described thus: "To aggressively negotitate terrain using any manner of vehicle". It then lists schralped, schralper, schralping and schralpingest as substitutes for different applications. Hmmmm, it would seem we're slightly off target.
However the gold was to be found on the next Google listing, under an entry for "schralp the gnarl"; an entry someone had painstakingly uploaded to the Urban Dictionary website.
"Schralp the gnarl" apparently means "To athletically excel in challenging conditions, such as deep powder while skiing or large waves while surfing". In case you're not sure where you could possibly use this phrase, the author has conveniently provided an example:
