Behind The Shot - Jordan Barta
Back in April Sydney was hit by a volley of south and south-east swells. Big and clean they lit up all the reefs and had locals believing that this Autumn would pump right the way through. During those swells Cape Solander was well attended whenever the tide was right.
“Driving the jet ski in the dark is pretty scary," said photographer Jodran Barta,"but that's what we had to do to catch the right tide this particular day. We got there just as the sun was rising. I dropped Judd Atkins and Scott Campbell in the line up who met up with Perth Standlick and Dom Wills."
"It was very slow with not many decent sets rolling in, but as always Perth sat patiently waiting for the right one. And thats what happened here on his first and last wave of the session. The tide filled in and the waves started to dissapear, lucky for Perth he got the wave of the morning."
And just like Perth's wave the short flurry of swells proved to be the highlight of the East Coast Autumn. Late April and all of May passed without a swell of significance. Didn't bother Perth though, he made the main event of the Margaret River Pro (where he was knocked out by Owen Wright) and also made Round 5 of the recent Saquerema Pro in Brazil. The Bondi local currently sits 16th on the 'QS.
