Away From Safe Harbour
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
-Mark Twain
Last August Alex Turoy was following Mark Twain's sage advice; exploring the coast of Sumatra and discovering new waves with a group of mates. In the type of situation that only seems to happen when travelling they happened upon a Chinese container ship that had struck a reef. And, conveniently for them, the reef had a tasty little wave on it!
What else to do but suit up and surf in the shadow of the hulking body of the ship? So while the lads threw off the bowlines and enjoyed a truly unique surfing experience the crew of the Full King, who were still aboard the ship, wondered of their own safe harbour.// STUART NETTLE
