Under Prying Eyes

After a fair soaking in January the clouds finally parted over the Gold Coast in early February. Subsequently the sun came out, the brown water turned blue and the time was ripe for water shots on the points. Shayne Nienaber swam out to Burlieigh to sample the action from up close.

Island Life

Warm water and sunshine, time to loosen the limbs and throw the tail. Shayne Nienaber took a weekend trip to one of Queensland's many offshore isles and got a taste of the summer to come.

Third Time is the Charm

Before Mick Fanning headed for J'Bay, Steve Shearer saw him surfing his local pointbreak saying he looked "sharp and on point". Fanning carried the form through the comp coming second to local lad, Jordy Smith. Fanning now heads to Huntington Beach where he's competing in the US Open, an event he made the semi-finals of in 2010 and the finals in 2009. Fans are hoping that the third time is the charm for Fanning at "the world's largest surfing competition".

Expat Pits

He knows the wave as well as anyone and has got into the Quiksilver Pro, by way of winning or placing in the trials, three times. During a recent swell Shayne Nienaber caught him at the other end of the Gold Coast where he was looking equally at home. //STUART NETTLE To see more of Shayne's photos visit his website
