The Unusual Suspects

Anyone not living on the Gold Coast could be forgiven for thinking the waves are limited to just D'Bah, the Superbank, Burleigh, and Straddie, and that the only surfers are the Cooly kids and their stickered up brethren. Well, here's one for the other guys. Yesterday, local photog, Grant Davis, trained his lens in a different direction and caught Nick Baxter, Clinton Shipsey and Rowan Walker rearranging the furniture at a lesser known Gold Coast spot.

Triple Barrel

He's got a triple barrel name that rings out like staccato machine gun fire and a nose for finding the barrel frontside or backside, Grant Davis captures Rudi Ricci Scutti digging in deep on a clean, uncrowded morning on the Gold Coast.

Pantone 292

Welcome to colour therapy, Grant Davis style. The surf is pumping, water is green, and the sky is the colour of blue, Pantone 292. To complete the course check the excellent video that Grant put together of the same sessions these shots were taken from. All photos by Grant Davis.

Sand Over Rock

The shape of the wave at Burleigh is totally dependent upon sand over the rocks. The wave is in good order at the moment, meaning the sand is in all the right places. But that's not the case if you ask Grant Davis. There's one rock in particular, out near the cove, that could do with a bit more sand build up around it.
